  Outreach at St. Peter's

St. Peter’s recognizes that ministry in the prisons follows the Gospel imperatives.

A strong group of parishioners reaches out weekly to those in the Bourbon County Detention Center. St. Peter’s hosted a national conference on Prison Ministry in 2004, and takes a leading role in this ministry at the Diocesan level.

Clergy and volunteers are involved in nursing home ministry, offering monthly church services to the residents. Speakers from across the church and the world have been regularly invited to St. Peter’s during the past decade, bringing with them stories of how life is for brothers and sisters in Christ in places much different from St. Peter’s. These visits have changed our lives, enriched our spirits and opened our hearts and minds, so that praying for “the poor, the oppressed, the unemployed and the destitute, prisoners and captives” and for “the dignity of all human beings” are words we hope will be only a beginning to active ministry—the giving of time, talent and treasure for others less fortunate than ourselves.
